Steeped in rich local history and flourishing in cultural activity, Whitefish, Montana, is a beloved home for both the history buff and the artist. Its scenic mountainous surroundings offer endless opportunity for athletes of all skills, and its medical opportunities are ideal for doctors and patients alike.

Located on the West side of the Rocky Mountain Divide, Whitefish has a relatively mild climate. The average temperature for July is a high of 80 degrees with a low of 49 degrees, and in January that becomes a high of 29 degrees with a low of 16 degrees. Rainfall averages out at 22 inches, and snowfall at 73 inches.

Home to Whitefish Mountain Resort, this little town has won its place among some of the most popular ski towns around. Best known for its winter sports, Whitefish Mountain Resort is situated on 3,000 acres of skier and snowboarder heaven, with runs ranging from beginner to expert. During the summer months you can enjoy the Alpine Slide, Zip Line Tours, the Aerial Adventure Park, as well as mountain biking and scenic lift rides.

Originally known as Stumptown, Whitefish started out as a logging town. However, it found its true renown when the Great Northern Railway came to town in 1891. Whitefish flourished in its role as a railway hub. The Depot building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings and has been turned into a museum.  It is still a pivotal Amtrak stop for anyone traveling the rails.

Activities abound in Whitefish. If downhill skiing and snowboarding don’t happen to be your wintertime forte, grab your cross-country skis (or snowshoes), and head down to the Whitefish Lake Golf Course for incredible ski trails. Tired of that? Don’t forget to head on over to Stumptown Ice Den for some ice-skating lessons. Finding a way to spend your summer evening after a day of hiking, biking, or boating is effortless. From sunbathing on the Whitefish City Beach, eating dinner at a gourmet restaurant, or enjoying live music at the weekly farmers’ market, your options are plentiful.

Whitefish is known for its friendly people and homey atmosphere. If your style is rustic, modern, or maybe even a little bit western, you’re sure to find something that suits you just right. The tight knit community is ideal for those looking for the small-town feel, but the town’s energy adds a deep sense of culture.
